Car brands

Only 2 years old, but Vincent knows them all: Audi, BMW, Citroen, Ferrari, Ford, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes, Opel, Peugot, Porsche, Renault, Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, etc., etc. Time to go to bed? Don't even try the regular bed time stories, just read him a car magazine. Show him some car pictures and he'll tell you the brand.

Click on the picture to watch a movie of Vincent in action (be patient, the movie is 17Mb big).

Krajicek's tournament

Krajicek's tournament

This year, the ABN AMRO tennis tournament was led by Richard Krajicek for the first time, which probably was the reason for the strong line-up. Johan and I watched Sjeng Schalken vs Raemon Sluiter and John van Lottum versus Juan Carlos Ferrero. The Spanish supporters were chanting against the Dutch, that was fun.

Young Opa Maurits

Young Opa Maurits

We keep on digging in the old shoebox. After a number of old pictures of Oma Hedwig's side of the family, we now found a picture of the Roumimper side. On the left in this picture you see Oom Nolly, doesn't he look like his son Harold? Oom Willy is standing in the middle. And to the righ it's Opa Maurits, he really looks like his son Raimond.

Oldest family picture

Oldest family picture

This is probably the oldest family picture we have. Most likely it was taken around 1914 on the porch of the old family house in Surabaya, Dutch-Indies. When we went back to Indonesia we visited one of the old houses in Surabaya where the family used to live, it may have been this house. Sitting in the back is Theodorus Gruwel, the Opa of Vincent's Oma, like so:

Theodorus Gruwel
+-- Maria Pangkei-Gruwel
+---- Hedwig Roumimper-Pangkei
+------ Jacques Roumimper
+-------- Vincent Roumimper

From left to right you see Oma Brintih, tante Trees (oom Nelis' mother), Opa Theodoor (Vincent's great great grandfather) with on his lap Oom Wim (Joyce' father and Dewi's Opa), Maria aka Mien (Vincent's great grand mother) and tante Dien.

Family ties

Family ties

This weekend we visited Roy & Nanette. Vincent played with Jay: cars, trains and of course the computer. We passed by the house of famous Dutch speedskater Erben Wennemars who lives close by. We started telling about the famous relatives we have, mentioning the Boltini family and tante Dicky. After numerous phonecalls with mothers and aunts, it turns out that tante Dicky is related to both Hester and Nanette. Now that makes Vincent & Jay double cousins from their fathers' sides and also from their mothers' sides!

Johanna (Jo) Veldhuijsen-Smits
+-- Dicky Boltini-Veldhuijsen
+-- Frans Veldhuijsen
+---- Hester Roumimper-Veldhuijsen - Jacques Roumimper
+------ Vincent Roumimper
Cornelis (Kees) Smits
+-- Janna Visser-Smits
+---- Marijke Herfst-Visser
+------ Nanette Herfst - Roy Roumimper
+-------- Jay Roumimper

Jacobus Roumimper
+-- Maurits Roumimper
+---- Jacques Roumimper - Hester Veldhuijsen
+------ Vincent Roumimper
+-- Jacobus (Cobus, Jan) Roumimper
+---- Roy Roumimper - Nanette Herfst
+------ Jay Roumimper
