Sicilia: Etna
They say you haven't seen Sicilia if you didn't climb Mount Etna, so of course we went to see the vulcano. We drove all around it to approach it from the Catania side. Already quite a drive in the Renault Clio along the windy roads up to the base camp. Here you can visit two pretty big craters. From there we took the cablecart to go up higher. Quite scary, and we didn't even take the open chair lift. From there an off-road SUV truck took us again higher. The view from the mountain is spectacular, while you are arounded by pitch black lava sand. Finally the guide took us for a long walk to the edge of some big craters with smoke coming out of the depth. The sand is really warm and when you dig a little you will find stones that are so hot you can barely touch them, amazing.More pictures: Overview Slideshow
