After Enzo (Ferrari) and Ferdinand (Porsche) it was time for Vincent's shirt collection to be extended with a Ferrucio (Lamborghini) shirt.

Auto RAI 2007

Like every 2 year, we went to the Auto RAI 2007 car show, joined by Serge. At the AutoVisie pitstop, all supercars were on display: Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Enzo FXX, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Porsche Carrera GT, Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT 500, Spyker C8 Spyder, etc.

Bleiswijk oldtimer carshow

The huge floweraction buildings in Bleiswijk are quite empty starting from Autumn, so there's plenty of space to have an oldtimer carshow.

Popular guy

It's so easy to be a popular guy, just organise some remote control car races and share your cars with your friends. Obviously Vincent prefers to keep the fastest Formula 1 car to himself.

F1 2006

The new season is here, Formula 1 has started again. So it's Saturday training sessions and Sunday raceday. Vincent is more than ready, practicing in full gear to be a driver himself. Though he is a bit disappointed that they stepped down from v12 all the way to just v8 engines. Ah well, can't have it all...

Real Ferrari Enzo

Not a day goes by without Vincent talking about his Enzo. And he wants to have a real one. Of course. Time and time again he's behind his computer screen, watching Tiff Needell taking an Enzo around the Autodromo circuit. Comparing his own car to Tiff's and dreaming of a real one...

Hero Mike

Hero Mike

Vincent has a new hero: Mike Verlinden, arguably an even bigger car nut than his own self. First we went to the karting track to see Mike win the race, while this was only his first drive ever. Then we went home to do some Remote Control racing, Enzo vs 206. This was followed by an overdose of Topgear, hosted by now formerly best friend Jeremy. Finally, the day was ended with some hefty Need for Speed computer racing, GT1 vs Moby Dick. Naturally, after such an exciting car car car day, Vincent officially declared Mike to be his new hero.

222222

Today good old Saab 900 SE 2.5 V6 managed to get a very respectable figure on the milage clock: 222222.

And despite it's age, performance is still rather good as the speedometer shows. And don't worry, this was on a Germany highway without speedlimit ;-)

Meeting Ford Prefect!

For those of you who know about building Inter Galactic Highways through Hyperspace, drinking Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters, putting a Bable-fish in your ear, understand Vogon poetry read by Zaphod Beeblebrox, have experienced the Infinite Improbability Drive, etc., you already know that the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is (you're not going to like it): 42. For those of you who don't have a clue what this is all about: Don't Panic. Go away now and start reading the book and find out all about the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Now that we've all read the book, we all know who Ford Prefect is, the guy who chose his name because he thought that automobiles were the dominant lifeform on Earth, and that the name "Ford Prefect" would be inconspicuous.

Finally you will understand our excitement when Vincent and I went to an oldtimer car show in our own familiar Dorpsstraat downtown old Zoetermeer. Because what happened: we met the real "Ford Prefect" in person! I had to restrain Vincent from buying it, because it was even for sale. Imagine him driving that car, they would all point at him and say: You sass that hoopy Vincent? Now there's a frood who really knows where his towel is!

Like every year, the police station organized a kids day. Of course Vincent was not interested in taking fingerprints, trying handcuffs, visiting the jail, looking at guns, wearing hats and uniforms or sitting on motorbikes. Surprise, suprrise, he ran straight to the parking place to check out all the police cars.

Zandvoort

Zandvoort

The tennis and squash guys gave me a free ride on the Zandvoort racing track last year for my birthday, so I went there last Saturday. It was a lot of fun and even usefull to learn how to control your car in very difficult circumstances, like when your driving on the extreme wet or even on ice. Amazing how applying the correct breaking, steering and throttle techniques at the right time can help you control a car that seems completely out of control.

Car brands

Only 2 years old, but Vincent knows them all: Audi, BMW, Citroen, Ferrari, Ford, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes, Opel, Peugot, Porsche, Renault, Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, etc., etc. Time to go to bed? Don't even try the regular bed time stories, just read him a car magazine. Show him some car pictures and he'll tell you the brand.

Click on the picture to watch a movie of Vincent in action (be patient, the movie is 17Mb big).

Surprise Porsche!!!

Surprise Porsche!!!

The surprises aren't over yet: today daddy got to drive a Porsche! First a 996 Carrera 4 Tiptronic, limited Millenium edition of which only 911 were built! Later a 993 Carrera 2. Another surprise arranged by mama where Noppie and Kaatje were involved in the plot. Roy said he was going to come around to help fix some stuff around the house. First daddy took me for a bike ride around the lake early in the morning, when the mobile phone rang. Roy was at our house already, on time which is rather suspicious, so we went home quickly. We were just home when Noppie and Kaatje rang the door bell, daddy opened the door and there was the Porsche: Very, very cool!

First daddy drove with Norbert and Geoffrey in the back to Zevenhuizen and back just to get used and feel the awesome power. Then daddy and mama went to the Rottemeren area to have lunch at Bergschenhoek on the lakeside. Then they went in the direction of Utrecht and drove to Schoonhoven along the Lek, to Oudewater and back via Gouda to Zoetermeer. And all the time there was that beautifull sounding 3.6 engine's in the back.

Afterwards we took the car back to the owner Kees, who took daddy for a spin and showed how serious driving should be done. He regularly does trackdays on the Zandvoort circuit and is working on his racing license. He accelerated flat out (remember 316bhp, 0-100 in 5.0s!) and then went full on the brakes, really incredible power.

Now Kees not only has a 996 C4 tip but also a beautiful cobalt blue 993 C2, which he offered to be driven as well. There was a surprisingly big difference between the two cars. Both of course have tremendous power, but the 996 was far more refined and sophisticated, of course it has the 5-speed tiptronic and clutchless manual. The 993 was pure, direct and raw power, clearly a real driver's car, it was the varioram version with 285bhp instead of the earlier 272bhp model. Can you imagine the tough choice he has to make every morning: 996 or 993?!

What a terrific day this was, see more pictures.

Boxter 2.7S

Speed Yellow? Maybe not... Polar Silver is much better. Even Racing Green is better, especially on a 356 classic of course. Look, we're talking colors in stead of horsepower. Ah well, a Boxter is a ladies Porsche anyway.

My favorite toys

My favorite toys

Guess what my favorite toys are: cars of course! I'm having a very hard time choosing between a 996 Carrera 3.6 Turbo to work on my Nurnburgring laptimes, or a 356C 1600 Speedster for some classic drop top cruising. Or should I go for a smooth mid-engined Boxter 2.7S? Choices, choices, the dear old Dr. Ing. h.c. Ferdinand surely didn't make life easy. I guess there's only one satisfactory answer to this dillema: I'll just have to have all of 'em...
