Opa Maurits is leaving for Indonesia again, this time for a really long 6 months, so we had dinner.

World famous opa Maurits
Opa Maurits was interviewed and an article about him appeared in the local newspaper Nieuwsblad Zoetermeer. Including a picture of Opa in front of the
Tlaga Biru painting, of course.

Tante Corrie Roumimper passed away
At the age of 90, Tante Corrie Roumimper-Von Ende passed away. She was the sister in law of opa Maurits, the widow of opa's brother Willy. Opa was in Indonesia but fortunately we were able to track him down. He quickly returned and was in time to take care of the arrangements.

Opa to Indonesia again
Two months in the Netherlands is enough for opa Maurits, so he's is going back to Sukabumi, Indonesia again. After the last dinner and before leaving, Opa and Vincent enjoy reading the encyclopedia together.

Manado
Opa Maurits is in Manado and had to travel over emergency bridges and damaged roads. There have been earthslides and floodings, so it's quite a mess.

Dingin
It's way too cold here in Holland, so Opa Maurits is going back to Indonesia again for another 2 months. But not before pointing out on the atlas where exactly he's going.

Opa Maurits celebrated his 76th birthday, selamat! We went out for dinner to a Japanse restaurant where a private Malaysian cook prepared the food at our table, really nice. Menno may have a picture. Or 2.

Dutch Indies Liberation Day

every year, Opa Maurits attended the memorial service to remember the liberation of the Dutch Indies from the Japanese. This year he appeared on the NOS News again, wearing his
medal of honour.

Opa is back again
Opa is back again after another stay in Indonesia. Of course, not for long, the next flight is already booked. So Vincent immediately took advantage of this rare opportunity and grabbed opa for some track time to improve his already impressive driving skills.

Encyclopedia
Opa is leaving soon to go to Indonesia again, so this is the last time he can read with Vincent before he leaves. Opa finds that Vincent's view on the world should be extended beyond cars. So he reads from the kids encyclopedia. So if you now ask Vincent: 'Who is that really really smart guy?', he answers: 'Einstein!'

Selamat Opa Maurits
Another year has passed, today Opa Maurits turns 75. During the day we went out with the kids to 't Geertje. In the evening we went out for dinner to a restaurant without the kids, so we actually talk.

Opa is back again
It is becoming a tradition, Opa finally comes back from a long stay in Indonesia and reads Vincent a bedtime story. It probably won't be long before he goes back to Sukabumi again...

Liberation Day
Today we went to the memorial service to remember the liberation of the Dutch Indies from the Japanese on
15 August 1945. It's amazing to see so many Dutch Indonesian people together, it seems like every where you look you see a relative. The service was held at the Dutch Indies monument, the same monument where we bring flowers after a funural, as we did with
Oma Hedwig... We met with tante Euge and Muriel and went to
the cemetary to visit Oma Hedwig's grave and show her monument with the replica of the Tlaga Biru painting.

Knight
He may not look like one but actually Opa Maurits is a Knight. Dutch Indies liberation day is one of the rare occasions where Opa Maurits wears his medal of honour.

Sukabumi
After being back from Indonesia for only a few weeks, Opa Maurits already has had enough. He's going back again in August. In fact, he might even be buying a house there, possibly this one!

After spending 2.5 months in Indonesia, Opa Maurits finally came back again. Vincent immediately made him read bedtime stories from his Fire Engine book.

Selemat Jalan
Opa Maurits is leaving for Indonesia, together with his brother Oom Cobus and a group of people from the PIGL. Vincent and Noa decided to pack their suitcases as well, maybe Opa would take them with him. Selemat Jalan Opa, we will miss you!

Bandung school pictures
Opa Maurits found some old school pictures. These are from the H.B.S., Bilitonstraat in Bandung, Dutch Indisch. It is the 3rd grade class and these pictures was taken in May 1949.

www.Schoolbank.nl is a nice website with information about schools in the Netherlands including former Dutch colonies. You might find back some old friends there...

Young Opa Maurits
We keep on digging in the old shoebox. After a number of old pictures of Oma Hedwig's side of the family, we now found a picture of the Roumimper side. On the left in this picture you see Oom Nolly, doesn't he look like his son Harold? Oom Willy is standing in the middle. And to the righ it's Opa Maurits, he really looks like his son Raimond.
