Back from Greece

We're back from Crete where we went together with Joke and Nardi, big fun. A very nice appartment with a seaside terrace overlooking the bay, a resort with lots of kids for Vincent to play with, excellent food and drinks, what more do you want. And brilliant entertainment during water gymnastics ... Only watching, of course. We drove around a bit in the area to see Elounda, Plaka, Spinalonga, Knossos, Ierapetra, Agios Nicolaios. Gorgeous driving on the winding roads through the eastern mountain area, too bad we didn't have our 911 there. Ah well, too hot for cabrio anyway ;-)

Baanbreker open day

Vincent's school de Baanbreker held an open day. This year the city of Zoetermeer is celebrating 1000 years of existence, which was the theme at school for this year. So the school was decorated in medieval style, full of castles and knights. Vincent showed the replica they build of Palenstein castle and Lara was doing a cushion knight fight.

Communication Museum revisited

OK, let's try again. Here is a really really old computer, with a strange keyboard, doesn't even have the basics like a display and Need for Speed. The old telephones had a strange dial and a wire and you had to be connected through a huge switchboard. And they had some weird kind of email called letters, you had to weigh them and put stamps on them, very old fashioned.

Birthday & Gym (3)

After saying goodbye but also celebrating his birthday 2 times already, the 3rd time was at the gym. Coincidentally the teacher was also celebrating her birthday so all had to dress up. So Vincent turned into Robin Hood, so some political awareness was raised as well. You know, about stealing food from the rich and giving it to the poor. Of course he immediately countered that by saying: but daddy, rich people worked so hard for their money, shouldn't poor people be working at least a bit to earn their own food? Ah well, son, left wing, right wing, we'll discuss the politics later, just wear the nice costume ;-)

Meeting Ford Prefect!

For those of you who know about building Inter Galactic Highways through Hyperspace, drinking Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters, putting a Bable-fish in your ear, understand Vogon poetry read by Zaphod Beeblebrox, have experienced the Infinite Improbability Drive, etc., you already know that the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is (you're not going to like it): 42. For those of you who don't have a clue what this is all about: Don't Panic. Go away now and start reading the book and find out all about the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Now that we've all read the book, we all know who Ford Prefect is, the guy who chose his name because he thought that automobiles were the dominant lifeform on Earth, and that the name "Ford Prefect" would be inconspicuous.

Finally you will understand our excitement when Vincent and I went to an oldtimer car show in our own familiar Dorpsstraat downtown old Zoetermeer. Because what happened: we met the real "Ford Prefect" in person! I had to restrain Vincent from buying it, because it was even for sale. Imagine him driving that car, they would all point at him and say: You sass that hoopy Vincent? Now there's a frood who really knows where his towel is!

Pyramide

Pyramide

We're back from an excellent holiday in Egypt. The weather was great, warm but not hot, no sweater needed in the evenings. There were a number of pools for swimming without sand in your pants. The secluded beach was great for building sandcastles and doing salsa dancing. The resort was situated in a bay area with a coral reef only a few meters off the coast with a 50 meters pier to take you to the other side of the reef for great snorkling and duikelen. The numerous bars had all kinds of drinks, especially the Cuba Libre with lot's of local rum was put to the volume test. The different restaurants had pizza's and omlet made to order, barbecued meat, fresh fish everyday and most amazing of all: they had great rice, almost as good as in Indonesia! All of this served with first class service by our personal waiter Tarek. The animation team was great, especially Tatjana & Svetlana and their mini mini skirts made it quite obvious that the animation was not only for kids ;-) But the highpoint was of course our trip to Cairo. We went to the Gizeh plateau with the great Pyramids and the Sphinx, had a camel ride, ate lunch in a boat restaurant on the river Nile, visited the Egyptian museum with Tutankhamon, the hieroglyphs, mummies, etc., and saw Cairo's old Medina city center and the Citadel.

There's only one problem: Vincent now wants his own huge pyramid!

Police

This weekend we went to see the Police station. First we saw an ordinary Police van, they use it to transport arrested people. Nothing really special here, actually quite boring.

LAPD After that we saw a motorbike from the Dutch police. It had the flashing lights and of course the sirens. I can tell you, they're really pretty loud from up close.

LAPDThen we saw some big Harley Davidson motorbikes from America. Some of them where from the Los Angeles Police Department, some others were from New York. You see, you don't need no TV to see the LAPD or the NYPD in action, just come to Zoetermeer ;-).

Henry Of course I had to immediately think of cousin Henry who is with the Police in Seattle, Washington. He used to drive motorbike for the police as well and he currently just got a Harley Davidson for his 60th birthday.

Vincent Frank Maurice Roumimper born!

Vincent Frank Maurice Roumimper born!

Vincent Frank Maurice is born!

We named you Vincent because we find it a nice name, because your name means Conqueror and you had to overcome many setbacks even before you were born, because it is an international name that is relatively easy to pronounce in different languages and because it is associated with Victor, the name of your uncle.

Your middle name Frank is loosly derived from your grandpa's name Frans and your middle name Maurice is loosly derived from your other grandpa's name Maurits.

You were born in the Westeinde Hospital in The Hague, Netherlands, and you are the son of Hester Roumimper-Veldhuijsen & Jacques Roumimper.
